Castle Ruin Wilhelmsbad

On an island in the Braubach artificial lake, the tower-like castle of Crown Prince Wilhelm von Hesse-Kassel ranges upwards. Built between 1779 and 1781, it is a pseudo-mediaeval castle with the character of a ruin. Its tower accommodates a pleasure castle with elegant living apartment and a magnificent cupola hall. Anton Wilhelm Tischbein, the Hanau court painter of the late 18th century, decorated the hall with pictures of the Crown Prince's ancestors. The private living area of the Crown Prince are preserved for today’s visitors in their historical condition.
