Friedrichstein Palace

Friedrichstein Palace is situated 300 m above sea level on a hilltop, easily visible from its towering position above Altwildungen. The palace replaced a castle built in the 12th century by the Landgrave of Thuringia. A special destination for every visitor is the military and hunting museum established in 1980 in the west wing of the palace.

Opening hours:

Tuesday – Sunday: 10 am – 3 pm,

Public holidays: 10 am – 5 pm,

Mondays closed, December 24th, 25th and 31st closed.

Events:

The inner courtyard of the palace is the site of the international festival “Folk im Schloss" (“Folk in the palace”). In summer, classical music concerts are given in the Baroque hall.

Food & Beverages:

In the palace café with its broad terrace you can enjoy coffee and cake in Baroque ambience in the afternoon. A diverse dinner menu invites you to feast in the evenings.
